The Pleasure-Centered Human
After survival needs are reasonably satisfied, the center of life gradually shifts from survival to pleasure. The individual is no longer primarily concerned with obtaining food and security but with maximizing comfort, enjoyment, and personal satisfaction.
Money remains important, but its purpose changes. Instead of earning simply to survive, it is sought as a means of acquiring pleasurable experiences and desirable possessions.
The Nature of the Pleasure Mind
The pleasure-centered individual constantly seeks enjoyable experiences while avoiding discomfort and pain. Fear is no longer centered on survival alone but extends to pain, aging, loss of comfort, and death.
There is often a tendency to maintain appearances, including hiding the signs of aging, in an effort to preserve attractiveness and continue enjoying worldly pleasures.
Attachment to material possessions also becomes stronger because they are viewed as sources of comfort, status, or enjoyment.
Many individuals at this stage prefer earning through shortcuts rather than sustained effort. Work is often seen as a necessity only because it enables pleasure.
What Occupies Their Mind
Conversations naturally revolve around pleasure and desire.
Typical interests include:

Complaints when comforts or pleasures are taken away.

Gossip, especially when it is entertaining or sensational.

Expressing personal desires and future enjoyments.
Even when discussions move to other subjects, they often return to topics connected with pleasure and personal gratification.
Thinking Pattern
The mind frequently thinks about objects, experiences, or situations that promise pleasure.
Planning is directed toward obtaining desired objects, experiences, or relationships. Considerable time and energy may be spent pursuing personal desires, and many become willing to compromise principles in order to fulfill them.
Avoiding pain becomes as important as seeking pleasure.
Relationships
Relationships at this stage are largely based on mutual satisfaction and personal benefit.
Faithfulness often continues only as long as the relationship provides pleasure. Multiple romantic relationships or affairs may become common. Relationships frequently operate on a give-and-take basis, with expectations from both sides.
Friendliness and social charm are common qualities, while blood relationships may receive less importance than relationships that provide greater personal satisfaction.
There is also a tendency toward displaying wealth, possessions, or lifestyle to gain admiration from others.
Entertainment
Entertainment becomes an important part of daily life.
Common interests include:

Keeping many servants or seeking personal convenience.

Alcohol and drug consumption.

Pornography and cheap entertainment.
Pleasure itself becomes the primary purpose of recreation.
Limitations That Must Be Overcome
Every stage of evolution contains limitations that eventually prevent further growth.
The major afflictions of the pleasure-centered stage are:

Cunning and manipulation.

Lying, cheating, corruption, and dishonesty.

Lust.

Using force or violence to fulfill personal desires.

Killing or committing serious crimes to conceal wrongdoing.

Addiction to alcohol, drugs, and other pleasures.

Wasting wealth in the pursuit of enjoyment.

Becoming suicidal when the means to continue a pleasure-filled lifestyle are lost.
These tendencies gradually weaken judgment and make genuine inner growth difficult. Unless they are overcome, consciousness remains bound to the endless pursuit of pleasure.
The Next Step
Pleasure can satisfy desire temporarily, but every pleasure eventually fades.
As repeated enjoyment fails to produce lasting fulfillment, a new question naturally begins to arise:
